Katie Gearty sings in clubs and studios, at festivals and theaters, and for private events all over the Midwest and beyond. She was vocally trained in classical music styles in high school and college. In 2004, she began working as a professional jazz singer with The Wolverine’s Trio and Tanner Taylor Trio. With a versatile voice that mixes jazz, soul, rock and pop, Katie has been honored to perform with many of Minnesota’s most talented musicians.
Since 2009 Katie has been one of the female leads in Adam Levy’s Twin Cities super group Hookers & Blow. In May 2011, Katie was excited to join Minneapolis Legend Mick Sterling & Cate Fierro in the 9-piece power house soul/r&b band, The Irresistibles. Both bands perform regularly around Minnesota, and some of their favorite venues are The Dakota Jazz Club, The Narrows Saloon in Navarre, and Katie’s favorite NE Mpls hang, Mayslacks. She also regularly performs at Hell’s Kitchen in downtown Minneapolis with a funk induced jazz organ band Vital Organ. Sterling, Fierro and Gearty started the citiess newest Event band SOUL in 2011.
Some of her accomplishments include working with Bruce Henry, The Modd Squad, Debbie Duncan, JD Steele, Christine Rosholt, Arnie Fogel, Steve Clarke & The Working Stiffs, Kurt Jorgensen, Sam Kuusisto, Larry Fountain, stepping in for bands such as Synergy, Bruce Balgaard & The Covers, The Sevilles and The Atlantis Quartet. Her own house band at Nye’s Polonaise Room in NE Minneapolis spawned her 2006 eponymous first CD.
She joined Colleen Raye’s Girl Singers, performing across county and in town with ‘The Sirens of The 60’s’ and ‘Broadways Best’. Along with the fresh and jazz sensible singers, Rachel Holder & Nancy Harms, Katie co-created and performed in the jazz standard inspired show ‘Blue’ for The Twins Cities Jazz Society and The Legends of Jazz series at The Capri Theater. Katie has enjoyed spending more time in the studio in the last couple years doing voice over work and singing on projects that range from TV bumper music and cataloged country, pop, hip hop and r&b music, to cell phone ringtones.
In January of 2013 Katie completed her 2nd CD featuring the music of Collide Theatrical’s presentation of the live music and dance show “Lot of living to Do” directed and choreographed by Regina Peluso. Collide Theatrical had another successful 2 week run at The Southern Theater with their second company production ‘The Belmont Hotel’ in Sept of 2013. Katie is excited to be a part of the Collide Theatrical family, where Jazz Musicians, Vocalist, Actors and the cities best dancers collide!
